What are the 3 main things I should know about Proteus?

3. Training with 3D Resistance provides up to 2x greater muscle activation than free weights and cable machines.

There hasn't been an accurate and practical way to quickly evaluate an athlete’s strength and speed across the entire body, particularly for multi-planar and rotational movements.

Why?

• Strength is the ability to move through and against resistance. To measure strength accurately, that resistance must remain constant. 
• But unless you are moving in a straight line, it is impossible for resistance from cable machines and free weights to stay constant throughout an entire movement.
• Why? Because the source of the resistance cannot adjust to mirror the angles of your movement throughout. This is why it may feel harder or easier at the beginning or end of a repetition
• Therefore, it's only possible to measure strength for movements in a straight line. Less than 5% of human movement is in a straight line.
• To measure or train strength for 3-dimensional movements, you need 3-dimensional forces.

With Proteus, trainers will be able to:

Proteus should be treated more like a Ferrari than your conventional squat rack. Keeping the machine out of its end ranges during use is imperative to keeping the machine functioning as intended. Ignoring these end ranges may damage your Proteus and cause it to be non-operational.

1. Exercise extreme caution in the in/out directions.
2. Always stay within the yellow stickers on the carbon fiber tube when performing a movement.
3. Avoid impact with the end limits of Proteus’ range of motion.
4. For safety, always perform a practice repetition of the movement before performing at high effort. 
5. When performing in/out movements, do not slam the bluetooth controller into the machine's housing.
6. For taller users, be aware that they may reach the upper limits of the machine during overhead movements. In this case we recommend having the user perform the movement from a kneeling position.
7. Note: If Proteus' monitor is on the right side, exercise caution with left-to-right movements as the housing of the machine can make contact with the monitor at the extreme range to the right side.

Where to stand to ensure Proteus will stay out of its end ranges:

1. Always face towards Proteus
2. Begin movements with the BlueTooth controller 12" away from the machine's housing. Have the user hold Proteus’ handle and step back until their arms are straight.
3. For safety, always perform a practice repetition of the movement before performing at high effort. 

We highly recommend marking this standing area on the ground so users know exactly where to stand every time they use Proteus.

• On the base of the machine, you'll notice a gray faceplate with Proteus branding on it.
• Pull a tape measure 4 ft away from this point on the base and mark this area with a strip of tape.
• Outside of some taller users, this position will keep most people out of Proteus' end ranges.

Freestyle Mode

• Like “quick start” on a treadmill, Freestyle Mode provides an easy and fast way to experience 3D resistance.
• Resistance can be adjusted on the touchscreen or by using the +/- buttons on the Bluetooth controller.
• Live/Peak power and velocity outputs are displayed on screen. Both peak values can be cleared by selecting Clear All or individually by selecting the x next to the metric you would like to clear.
• Performance data is never saved in Freestyle Mode–even when you are logged in.

Best Practices

• Since Freestyle Mode offers the easiest access to 3D Resistance, it is best suited for groups as a training station built into your users’ training sessions.
  • “I want you to perform shot puts for 5 reps per side. Aim to beat your peak power/velocity at xx resistance each repetition.”
• Given that there are no movement directions in Freestyle, this mode is perfect for getting creative with users' movements and flows.

Workout Mode

• Workout Mode is Proteus’ personal trainer setting.
• Workout mode contains time based workouts, warm ups, and finishers that clients can go through independently.
• No data is saved in Workout mode.
• Users will get stats upon completing a workout that include power, calories burned, work during the session, duration of the session, and what regions of the body performed the workout. 
• Resistance can be adjusted with the +/- buttons while the play button works as a pause/start button during work intervals.

Best Practices

• Workout Mode is the perfect tool to introduce users to 3D Resistance and Proteus’ guided movements.
• Great for guided warmups when a coach is unavailable.
• Workouts in the Finisher section are a time friendly conditioning tool that can be incorporated at the end of a training session.

Performance Testing Mode

• Performance Testing Mode is where all movements are stored, analyzed, and tracked.

The General Power Test consists of a battery of 17 exercises performed in under 10 minutes that is used to identify your power-to-weight ratio (Proteus Score), where you rank against other Proteus users (Percentile), your left-to-right balance (Power Balance), and break down of your power output per segment of the body.

General Statistics

• Proteus Score – power to weight ratio; higher is better

• Power Balance – difference in power between the sides; 0-8% is normal

Comparisons

• With Proteus’ Comparisons feature, users will be able to compare their performance results against any specific cohort of users.
• Users will be able to filter their results based on gender, age, weight, height, side dominance, sport, position, and skill level.
• If a user has too many filters selected, it may limit the data that a test can be compared to. If this is the case, a notification will appear on the screen letting the user know that if they remove a couple of filters, they will be able to compare their results to a larger data set.
• Important: Users that have not completely filled out their user profile information will not be able to access the comparisons feature.

Power Report Notes

• The General Power Test and the Cressey Performance Tests are currently the only performance tests that will generate a data rich power report.
• If a user does not complete all the movements included in the General Power or Cressey Performance Tests a report will not be generated. However, Insights & Recommendations will be generated for completed movements.

This test is designed to measure the athletes ability to generate power and acceleration during movement, aiding the development of a training program that specifically targets and optimizes these qualities
